First Day of Residency

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:06 pm

It’s 10pm on the first night of my residency and I am done for the day. As I wasn’t feeling well yesterday, ended up getting the 7am ferry this morning, which made for a long (but good) day on campus. My room is what you’d expect of a dorm- single bed, small desk, spacious set of drawers, and small closet. Note to self, bring warm clothes to lounge in as the rooms are chilly at this time of year. When I pulled up in the rain, the security staff were very welcoming and throughout the day I’ve been impressed by how helpful and friendly the staff are.

Our morning consisted of an orientation and in the afternoon we got to start our courses. First up, Professional Communication. Today’s course focussed on proper sentence structure, comma usage, and other such grammatical issues. Shaun, our instructor, made a somewhat dry subject entertaining and I’m genuinely enjoying the class. It’s true, I do need to polish up on these issues and am even finding myself rereading over this entry with Shaun’s lessons in mind. Hey, at least there’s room for improvement!

After a long day, we had a lovely social in the castle and I got to meet many of my fellow classmates. What you may think is one of those evenings you ‘need’ to attend, ends up being a great social evening- do not skip this event. So now, I am ready to call it a night and prep for my morning class. Goodnight.

Day 10

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 9:30 pm

Settling in for another night of reading and on day 10 of my Master of Arts in Professional Communication at Royal Roads University. So far the experience is thought provoking, challenging, overwhelming and inspiring. I already have many new thoughts and ideas on the sharing and interpretation of communications, that I’m excited to see where I’ll be come graduation!

I will be documenting my experience while attending this two-year online program. During this time I plan to update my website with information on current assigned projects, their relevance and application to real world experiences, video postings and interviews with faculty and individuals from relevant fields. Please feel free to comment or challenge my postings and opinions. I’m looking to make this a place of growth and conversation.
